Dear Reader!
Greetings from Water Centric (WC)! Despite the continuing financial and economic downturn, I am happy to report that WC has been making steady progress on our 10-school project, currently serving about 10,000 children in Delhi, India. We are pleased with our US efforts to raise awareness about the dismal state of affairs regarding toilets, potable water and hygiene education in many developing world schools, and at slowly building a nimble but viable organization to address these issues.
Since my last note, WC has seen some heartening results. For example, we just finished building a septic tank in one of our schools, that will allow 1000 young girls to use school toilets for the first time ever, when they get back from vacation this month. We are also learning to use social networking sites like Facebook and a WC blog to build a community of informed and engaged supporters to help our cause.
We want you to know that every dollar donated or hour spent helping WC is having a real impact on our projects. Currently all Water Centric personnel are volunteering their time. I want to encourage each of you to get more involved. Together, we really can make a difference.
Best wishes,
Lotika S. Paintal

Our Progress in the past three months.
The strong progress we have made in a year has convinced us that our plan is working and that our projects will only get easier to implement as we gain more experience and funds. For now, we are taking on only the most urgent infrastructure projects. We are in the process of either fixing or installing new water and sanitation facilities as determined by careful audits of our schools. Our recent work includes:
In India:
- Installation of a septic tank in one school. (See picture on top left showing construction). The tank is ready and all toilets in the school will be functional when the students return to class in July.
- Work has begun to install a redesigned water station (see top middle picture of the old station being measured).
- All 10 schools have formed active Hygiene Clubs that are producing regular newsletters (see top right picture of hygiene club students reading their hygiene newsletter).
- We’re pleased with our Indian NGO Partner, Sakshi, and the manner in which they have been working with us to implement the program. This is allowing for an efficient use of donor money.
- Children in our US and Delhi schools are writing letters and learning more about each other. This inter-continental exchange is making this project ‘real’ for young people that are literally oceans apart!
In the USA:
- Our Water Centric volunteer force continues to grow
- WC has completed its first year of operation and filed all the necessary tax forms with the IRS and State Department
- WC is using social networking sites to virally raise awareness and spread the word about what we do and how you can help
